We obtained additional lanes for all times and groups, so we do still have at least a few openings in all groups.


The Mason Makos Swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. The Mason Makos Swim Team's goal is to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

Mini Mako Developmental
Recommended Ages: 8 yrs old & Under
Requirements: Ability to swim legal freestyle and backstroke for 25yds, unassisted in shallow water. Not a “learn-to-swim” program. Practice held in the recreational pool.
Description: Extensive stroke mechanics work on all 4 strokes.
Goal: Legal strokes.
Practice Times: Option 1: (1x/week) Saturday 9:00-9:45 AM

Mako Stroke Mechanics
Recommended Ages: 9 yrs old & Under

Mini Makos

Requirements: Must be able to swim three (3) strokes legally, unassisted in deep water. Not a "learn- to-swim" program. Strive to compete in at least 3 PVS/USA meets during the year. All new swimmers must be evaluated or get coaches approval.
Description: Extensive stroke mechanics work, plus conditioning. 1 or 2 practices/week.
Goal: Legal strokes, starts, turns; Conditioning.
Practice Times: Option 1: (1x/week) M or W 6:30 - 7:30 PM or Saturday 8:00-9:00 AM
Option 2: (2x/week) M / W 5:30 - 6:30 PM

Age Group I
Recommended Ages: 9 to 12 yrs. old
Requirements: Ability to swim all four strokes legally, and complete a legal 100 yd I.M. This is not a "learn-to-swim" program.
Description: Extensive stroke drill work and technique development. Start and turn refinement, and transition turns for the 100 IM. Some conditioning, but emphasis will mainly be on 25's and 50's where stroke correction will occur.
Goal: Swimmer will be able to complete all four strokes with legal turns.
Practice Times: Option 1: (2x/week) M / W 7:30-8:30 PM, T / R 6:30-7:30 PM or F 5:30-6:30 PM

Junior I
Recommended Ages: 9 to 12 yrs. old
Requirements: Legal in all four strokes. Ability to complete a 100 yd. I.M. under 1:30:00. Strive to compete in at least 3 PVS/USA meets during the year, and to compete in the 200 IM and 200 Freestyle by the end of the season.
Description: Continued stroke drill work, incorporating them into sets. Learn importance of underwater swimming off walls during turns. Introduction to race strategies and proper nutrition.
Goal: More efficient strokes, increased conditioning, and race techniques. Achieving Junior Olympic time standards.
Practice Times: Option 1: (2x/week) M / W or T / R or F 5:30-6:30 PM

Junior II
Recommended Ages: 9 to 12 yrs. old
Requirements: Legal in all four strokes, and be able to complete a proficient 200 yd I.M. under 3:10.00 (9-10 yrs) and 2:50.00 (11-12 yrs). You will be required to compete in at least 3 PVS/USA meets during the year, and strive to compete in the 500 Freestyle by the end of the season. Must have Junior Olympic-level qualification time standards and coach's approval. You may choose from a 3 or 4 practices/week program.
Description: Continued stroke drill work while incorporating them into sets. Swimmers will learn the importance of swimming relaxed. Continued review of the importance of turns, and underwater swimming off of walls. Increased conditioning. Physically more demanding than our Junior I program. Note: (If we have 10 or more swimmers select Option 2, we will add an Age Group coach, otherwise, they will be coached by Coach Peter Ward)
Goal: Stronger, more efficient strokes. Junior Olympic Championships qualification in additional events.
Practice Times: Option 1: (3x/week) M / W 5:30-6:30 PM and F 5:30-7:00 PM
Option 2: (3x/week) M / W 5:00 - 6:15 AM and F 5:30-7:00 PM

Senior Prep
Recommended Ages: 12 to 14 yrs. old
Requirements: Ability to complete a very proficient 200 I.M under 2:39:00. Junior Olympic-level qualification time standards and coach's approval. Required to compete in at least 6 PVS/USA meets during the year, and strive to compete in the 1,000 Freestyle by the end of the season.
You may choose from a 3, 4 or 5 practices/week program.
Description: Strokes, starts and turns drills are incorporated into the swimming sets during practice. Continued review of the importance of turns, and underwater swimming off of walls. Increased conditioning. Physically more demanding than our Age Group and Junior programs. Swimmers will also learn about proper nutrition. This program is designed to help the transition from Age Group swimming to the Senior level. Dryland included on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
Goal: Stronger, more efficient strokes; Increased conditioning; Junior Olympic Championships qualification in additional events.
Practice Times: Option 1: (3x/week) M / W 6:30 - 7:30 PM, T or R 5:00 - 7:00 PM
Option 2: (3x/week) M / W 5:00 - 6:15 AM, R 5:30-7:00 PM or S 6:30-8:00 AM

Recommended Ages: High School Aged Swimmers
Requirements: Ability to complete a proficient 200 I.M. You may choose a 2 or 3 practice/week program.
Description: Designed for high school aged swimmers to supplement their HS season, and also for those who wish to compete in PVS/USA meets. Increased training, with some stroke and turn work. Dryland included on all 4 evenings.
Goal: Stronger, more efficient strokes; Substantially increased conditioning; PVS Senior Championships qualification.
Practice Times: Option 1: (2x/week) M / W 7:00-8:30 PM or T / R 6:30-8:00 PM
Option 2: (3x/week) M / W 7:00- 8:30 PM and T or R 6:30- 8:00 PM, or M / W / F 4:45- 6:15 AM

Senior/National Groups
Requirements: PVS Senior Championships, and/or Junior National Championships qualification times. Must have coach's approval.
Description: Designed for the most dedicated swimmers who potentially may want to swim in college. Intense training; Strokes, starts and turns refinement. Dryland included on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings.
Goal: Optimized strokes, turns and starts. Eastern Zone Sectional Championships, Junior- or Senior- National Championships qualification.
Practice Times: Option 1: Tuesday & Thursday 5:00-7:00 PM, Monday, Wednesday & Friday 4:45 - 6:15 AM, and Saturday 6:30-8:00 AM
Option 2: Tuesday & Thursday 5:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday 7:00-8:30 PM, Monday & Friday 4:45- 6:15 AM, and Saturday 6:30-8:00 AM
Program Fee: 9 months: $2,483
11 months: $3,013 (Team Warm-up included in this program)

Annual Registration Fee: $285
Registration fee is due at time of registration and includes the following: USA/PVS Registration and Insurance, Team Suit, Team T-shirt, Team Cap, GMU Parking Pass (Long Sleeve shirt may be substituted for additional parking pass), GMU Bag Tag, Team Party and Awards, Coaches Education and Development, Equipment, Website, and a Non-Refundable $50 towards Meet Entry Fees.

Payments of Program Fees:
Payment of Program Fees will be divided into 2 payments, each due by the dates listed below:
Payment #1: 50% of total program fees are due by August 13, 2010
Payment #2: Remaining 50% of total program fee is due by January 14, 2011

Family Discounts: Swimmer with highest fees will pay in full, and additional swimmers in same family will receive a 5% discount off of their swimmer dues.


2010 MASON MAKOS SUMMER TRAINING

The Mason Makos summer training sessions are available to all 9 & over high performance USA swimmers. Intense competitive endurance training as well as individualized start, turn and stroke technique will be focused on over the course of the summer. USA competitive swim meets will also be offered.
