Update: September 14

Mason Makos Update

Monday, September 14, 2009

Session 1 starts today:

Please arrive no sooner than 10 minutes prior to the start of your swim practice. The coaches will have an attendance list for each group so the swimmers will be able to find the correct group and lane for practice.  Parents are not allowed to go downstairs to the pool deck Monday through Friday.  You may either wait in the bleacher area, or you may drop off and pick up your swimmer in Lot C. Only parents of 8&Unders on Saturday may purchase a bag tag to stay on the recreational pool deck.

MAKO Team Attire & Parking Passes:

Team suits, t-shirts, bag tags and parking passes will be distributed in Lot C during the following days/times this week.  If it rains, I will distribute gear in the bleacher area.

Monday 5:00-7:30 PM

Tuesday 5:00-7:30 PM

Wednesday 5:15-7:30 PM

Thursday 5:15-7:30 PM

Friday 5:15-6:30 PM

Saturday 8:45 AM- 10:00 AM

I need a few volunteers to help me distribute gear each evening.  Please let me know if you are available to do so. Thanks.

If you are not starting until Session 2 or 3, you may pick up this gear at the times listed above, or wait until the first day of your session.

Bag Tags:

All team members will receive a NEW GMU bag tag that must be shown at the entrance of Sector B, prior to entering the pool for each practice.

YOU MUST HAVE A TAG ON YOUR BAG IN ORDER TO ENTER THE FACILITY AND TO ATTEND SWIM PRACTICE.

Fins for Swim Practice:

Coaches are requiring that each swimmer have a pair of fins during practices starting next week.  Many of you have purchased them from me already.  We also have a large grey equipment bin at the pool that contains several pairs of fins that you may borrow during practice. I cannot promise that your size fins will be there each time, therefore we encourage you to have your own.  Make sure to write your name on EACH fin with permanent marker.

If you would like to purchase fins from me, please email your shoe size and I will bring them to the pool next week for you.  The cost is $25.

Entry Guidelines

  1. To enter an upcoming meet, first you’ll need to download the meet announcement, which I have attached to this email.
  2. You will select your events, and email your entries to (makoentries@yahoo.com).  Please include the name of the meet, your swimmer’s first and last name, their age on the first day of the meet,  event numbers, and name of event.  If you are *NEW* MAKOS, please provide your swimmers best short course yard times for each event. *RETURNING* MAKOS entry times will come from our team database*. If they have no times for a particular event, I will simply enter them with a "NT" and they will be seeded accordingly.

    See example: Fall Tri- Meet
    Miles J. Oakley, 13
    Event 4  100 Back
    Event 10 200 Free

  3. Once you’ve emailed your entries, within 24-48 hours, you will receive an email stating "Entries Received".
  4. Please print the confirmation email, and retain for your records.
  5. ***MOST IMPORTANTLY*** Following the meet entry deadline, I will email the *draft* entries for the meet to all Mako families. Swimmers and/or parents must check these draft entries to determine if your swimmer is entered correctly. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT THESE DRAFT ENTRIES ARE CORRECT. If your swimmer is not listed on the draft entries, then I have (likely) not received your entries. Mako will not be responsible for any deck entries, once the entries are finalized. If you find an error in the draft entries, or if your swimmer is not listed, please email me immediately at (makoentries@yahoo.com).

The coaches determine who will swim relays for MAKO. Relays do not count in the total events a swimmer may swim in a day.

  6. After the due date, I will then send out an email with our teams *final* entries.
  7. Once the entries are sent in to the Meet Director, no changes can be made. All issues must be addressed before the deadline to fix any problems found in the draft entries.
  8. Entry fees are deducted from your Meet Escrow Fund (M.E.F), and a .25 cent surcharge will be applied to each individual entry.  You are financial responsible for ALL entries -- regardless of actual participation.  Any late entries, (those sent in AFTER the original due date) will be assessed a flat $5.00 fee which is deducted from your M.E.F.

Volunteers Needed:

All officials wishing to volunteer to work this meet should contact Tony Fitz at tfitz@cox.net.  MAKO will also need to provide several timers, volunteers for the coaches and officials hospitality room and possibly for the concessions stand during the meet.  Please email me at makoswimming@aol.com if you are able to help out during your child’s session, and include the date and session you are able to volunteer. Thanks.

Team Spirit:

Swimmers must wear their team suit, cap and t-shirt during the meet.  Many of you like to wear a faster speed suit during your races, please check with your coach at practice to get his or her approval.

Parents can show their team spirit by wearing MAKO team attire as well.  Our 2009-2010 White t-shirts are available for $10.  We also have vintage Royal, or Grey team t-shirts for $5, Grey or Black long sleeve shirts for $20, and collared shirts w/team logo for $20.  All attire is available in Youth Large and Adult Small through Adult XL sizes.  Cash or checks made out to HLR, LLC are accepted. Please let me know if you’d like to order a shirt as soon as possible.

The coaching staff and I are very excited about this season!

Please let Coach Heather know if you have any questions.

 GO MAKOS!
