Don't forget the officials clinics this Sunday.  Coach Heather has heard from a bunch of you that you will be attending the clinics (Thank you Thank you) but we still have lots of open spots and need more officials from our team to successfully host meets this year.  The officials clinics will be during the MAKO Fall Invitational meet. We hope many parents will attend one (or more) of these clinics. Sunday October 9 at George Mason University Aquatic & Fitness Center:
Starter: 8:00 - 10:00 am
Colorado Timing system operator: 10:30 - 12:30 pm
Hy-Tek computer operator: 1:00 - 3:00 pm

A very simplified description of these 3 jobs: the Starter starts the race and ensures all the swimmers get a fair start. To attend the Starter clinic you must be a stroke & turn judge for 1 year so we'd like all of our stroke & turn judges to attend the clinic so they're available for either position during a meet. The Colorado Timing System operator electronically gets the times from the touchpads then changes the scoreboard to the next race. The Hy-tek operator receives the times from the Colorado computer and prints results and ribbon labels. There are no prior certifications required for the hy-tek and Colorado positions.

Potomac Valley Swimming has excellent training and incentive programs for officials. MAKO will pay the membership fees for team parents becoming new USA Swimming officials and returning officials will have their annual fees paid by Potomac Valley Swimming. More information on the officials clinics at GMU and other officials clinics in the area can be found here. Pre-registration for the clinics is encouraged, but not required. You can just show up on the date and time of the clinic.
